Description

Explanation of this painting based on my meditation and state of flow:

To be free from fear is to come from a place of Abhaya, a Sanskrit word that expresses true fearlessness. This is what the Buddha teaches. It is not about living with fear or without fear, but living as if fear never existed.

The moon-bow is a rainbow that appears around the moon, revealing light within darkness. I have seen rainbows in meditation, and this vision came to me as a rainbow encircling the moon. At times, I see it as monks transcending into another dimension, symbolised by the star on the right.

The stormy waters represent the turbulence of the mind. Through this, we must rise and allow our own lotus to grow, a reflection of the teaching: No Mud, No Lotus.

The pearlescent clothing and crown represent bodhicitta, the intention to awaken for the benefit of all beings. They symbolise compassion and love. Like a wish-fulfilling jewel, this compassion eases suffering and softens emotions such as anger, jealousy, and greed.

“Om Mani Padme Hum” is a sacred Buddhist mantra, often translated as “Hail the Jewel in the Lotus.” Mani (jewel) represents compassion, and Padme (lotus) represents wisdom. Together, they point to the transformation of body, speech, and mind into an enlightened state through the union of compassion and wisdom.

The blue figure represents transformation through meditation. To me, this is not unlike a psychedelic state, where insight arises naturally. In many traditions, blue beings are associated with wisdom and enlightenment, Krishna, Vishnu, and Rama in Hinduism, Dionysus in Greek tradition, and Blue Tara in Buddhism, known as the mother of Buddhas.

The Bodhi tree surrounds the figure, bearing the fruits of meditation and discipline. The natural beauty around him reflects the Buddha’s teachings, that everything follows the laws of nature.
